Late Fall 2003
Lucky came in just to say hi!  He looks great, See for yourself!

April 21, 2003
Lucky has not been in to see us for about a month and a half. Last time he was in he was looking like a real Scottie
and other than being there for a bit of diarrhea, he was normal, healthy and happy. His hair has grown in so the scarring is hardly visible. I unfortunately wasn't in town when he was in so I did not get any pictures of him. Next time I see him I will get some and post them here.  I would say he has fully recovered at this point. As far as his tormentors, we have not heard anything from the district attorney's office and until we do we cannot get any updates.  Again, thanks for all the caring and contributions!!! SBVS

Lucky came in today and he is doing fantastic. He is basically a normal dog now with a short right ear and a few scars like the one on his head just in front of his right ear. Who knows what the emotional scars are, but he seems to be acting like a happy healthy puppy again. Thanks to all that contributed to his well being. SBVS

Lucky is doing great. He is basically back to being a healthy puppy! Many thanks to all those that contributed to his care. Donations were such that Lucky's owners did not have to contribute anything to the costs of care. Thanks again to everyone. I will try to get some updated photos the next time he is in to SBVS, but we don't seem to be crossing paths too much these days. MBP

Lucky is doing great now! Due to me being sick and the fact that Lucky is only coming in for rechecks about every 5-7 days, we have not gotten any new pics until yesterday. Now they just have to get sent to me. Anyway, he is doing very well. Most of his burned areas were surgically removed and are now just healing incisions. He did lose about 25% of his right ear and 15% of the left ear (just the tips). His face is pretty much healed. Only time will tell if he regrows the hair on it but we think he has a good chance. Other than that he looks like he will recover and be a healthy pup. Thanks so much for all the generous contributions. We received more than the bill is so we have placed the balance in a fund called the "Lucky Fund" and it will be used for abused animals and injured/sick animals that have owners that have difficulty coming up with funds to pay for care. I will post the new pics in a day or so. Thanks again for all the support!!!

Thanks for your support! Lucky got to go home this past weekend. He is doing much better. Wounds are healing. Don't know yet about the final outcome for his ear, but should have a better idea later this week. Our digital camera died so don't have updates of pics. But will post new ones when he comes in for a recheck later this week. We found out today that Animal Planet may want to do a story on Lucky's case, so look for him to be on television in the future. We will let you know if it becomes a reality!
Happy New Year!  MBP

Christmas Eve 2002
- LUCKY GOES HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!!
Lucky is home to spend Christmas with his family. He is due back in the hospital the day after Christmas but he is continuing to improve. Wound care and wound healing can take quite awhile even though Mother Nature can be pretty kind. The surgery sites are holding up and even though his ear and face looks kind of bad in the pictures, it really is improving. I always tell clients that with wounds, especially burns or traumas, the wounds will quite often look worse before they look better. Patience is the word. Below are a couple of todays' pics. The lovely lady is Dr. Amy Clare, the internist that is overseeing the critical care and medical aspects of Lucky's care, and the handsome gent next to her is Dr. Greg Herndon, one of the surgeons that is handling the wound debridements and wound closures on Lucky. They are both doing a fabulous job, along with Dr. Brigid Nicholson and the SBVS technical staff, and Lucky is lucky (yes a pun) to have such talented individuals taking care of him. (None of the aforementioned fabulous staff have anything to do with the content of this website - MBP does this part).  MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!!!!!

Lucky had another surgery today. Most of the necrotic skin was removed and several of the wounds were sutured closed. His face burns Luckily (not a pun) are mostly second degree and we are hoping they will just heal with some intensive wound care. His ears were debrided (surgically cleaned up) and he may still lose some portions of the them. Because of the damage to the area between his legs, he had to be neutered and and the skin in that spot removed (PG rated description). All is all he is making good progress, although as you might imagine he has been enduring quite a bit of continuous discomfort. He has been a trooper throughout. I will post updated pictures after the normal post-operative swelling has resolved.

Lucky is making progress. He looks like he may get to keep his right eye, but we don't know about the ears yet. He had a surgery to remove necrotic (dead) tissue and assess his skin graft potential yesterday (Tuesday). He is stable today. He is scheduled for another surgery on Friday to remove more necrotic tissue and possibly to have some of his wounds closed. I will make updates to this website every couple of days.
Thanks again, SBVS

Yesterday, a male 10-month-old Scottish Terrier named Lucky that had been set on fire was rushed into his veterinarian for treatment. This case is under
Investigation by the Sunnyvale Public Safety Department. This little guy has 3rd degree burns over several areas of his body and face. He will likely lose an ear and an eye, but with proper treatment and possibly skin graft surgery, he has a good chance of survival and leading a normal life.  Lucky was transferred to South Bay Veterinary Specialists in San Jose, CA where he is receiving care from several of the specialists. Sadly, Luckie's owners cannot afford all the medical treatment and had been considering euthanasia.  The referring veterinarian, Dr. Hannah Pitstick is reducing Lucky’s bill and has contributed some of her own money to Lucky’s care. The specialists at South Bay Veterinary Specialists are going to contribute their services to lower the charges, but whatever costs remain may still be too much for the owners to pay.  We know at this time of year we're all "tapped out" buying gifts, etc., but this little dog has touched our hearts. If any of you would like to help him you can contact us at:

South Bay Veterinary Specialists

Methods to donate to Lucky:
1 - Call 408-363-8066 and tell the reception staff that you would like to use a credit card to make your gift. They can take it over the phone.
2 - Send a check made out to South Bay Veterinary Specialists, and put the name Lucky in the Memo box.
3 - Send cash
contributions to the above address.

Thanks, and please feel free to pass this information around.
Lucky can use all the help he can get.
